Obiettivi formativi
Offrire agli studenti gli strumenti per comprendere i processi storici che hanno caratterizzato la storia europea e mondiale dal 1848 alla fine del XX secolo. Approfondire le vicende che hanno interessato, nel periodo considerato, il mondo del giornalismo, con particolare riferimento ai rapporti tra informazione e potere.
The course aims to provide students with the tools necessary to understand the historical processes that have characterized European and world history from 1848 until the end of the twentieth century. It also proposes to investigate the events that concerned, in the same period, the world of journalism, with particular reference to the relationship between information and power.

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
Al termine del corso gli studenti dovranno dimostrare di avere acquisito un buon grado di conoscenza e di capacità critica rispetto agli argomenti in oggetto. Dovranno inoltre saper padroneggiare, con riferimento al mondo del giornalismo, temi quali i rapporti tra stampa e potere politico, i sistemi di controllo governativi sull'informazione, il giornalismo di guerra.
At the end of the course students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired a good degree of knowledge and critical skills with respect to the topics covered during the lessons. They should also be able to master, with reference to the world of journalism, issues such as relations between press and political power, government control systems on information, war journalism.

Modalità di insegnamento
Il corso prevede 72 ore complessive di lezioni frontali. Le prime 36 ore saranno dedicate a delineare e a far comprendere il quadro storico generale (volume n. 1 dei Testi consigliati). La seconda parte del corso (36 ore) sarà dedicata all'approfondimento dei temi specificamente connessi alla realtà giornalistica (volumi n. 2 e 3 dei Testi consigliati). Per gli studenti interessati, sono inoltre previste 12 ore di approfondimento su tematiche specifiche.
The course includes 72 hours of lectures. The first 36 hours will be dedicated to making students understand the general historical framework. The second part of the course (36 hours) will be dedicated to the deepening of the themes specifically related to the journalistic reality. For those students who wish to do so, 12 hours are also provided for in-depth study of specific topics.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La verifica della preparazione verrà compiuta attraverso un esame orale. Sarà valutata la capacità dello studente di esporre criticamente e collocare storicamente i temi trattati a lezione. È anche prevista, per gli studenti frequentanti, una verifica intermedia scritta, sotto forma di esonero (6 cfu), dedicata alla prima parte del corso (volume n. 1 dei Testi consigliati).
The verification of the preparation will be accomplished through an oral exam. The ability of the student to critically expose and historically place the topics dealt with during the lessons will be evaluated. An intermediate written exam, dedicated to the first part of the course, is provided for students attending classes.

La prima parte del corso intende far conoscere e comprendere i principali processi storici che hanno caratterizzato l’età contemporanea dal 1848 fino alla fine del XX secolo. La seconda parte si propone di approfondire le vicende e trasformazioni che hanno segnato il mondo del giornalismo, con particolare riferimento ai rapporti tra informazione e potere.
The first part of the course aims to make known and understand the main historical processes that characterized the contemporary age from 1848 until the end of the twentieth century. The second part aims to deepen the events and transformations that have marked the world of journalism, with particular reference to the relationship between information and power.

Il corso da 12 cfu intende rivolgersi agli studenti di Scienze della comunicazione e agli studenti del 1° anno di Storia.
Gli studenti che devono sostenere l'esame da 9 cfu (in particolare quelli di Scienze politiche e sociali), non dovranno studiare il manuale di Sabbatucci/Vidotto ma, in sua sostituzione, il volume di M. Forno, "La cultura degli altri", Carocci, 2017
Gli studenti che devono sostenere l'esame solo da 6cfu dovranno studiare questi due volumi:
1) M. Forno, "Informazione e potere", Laterza, 2020.
2) E. De Angelis, "Guerra e mass media", Carocci, 2007.
Gli studenti di Storia (del 2° anno o successivi) e di altri corsi di laurea, che abbiano già sostenuto un esame di Storia contemporanea e che intendano sostenere l’esame da 12 cfu, dovranno invece studiare:

Il corso è rivolto anche agli studenti che, negli a.a. precedenti, avevano inserito nel loro piano carriera il corso di Storia del giornalismo e di Storia dei media e del giornalismo.
N.B. L’intero insegnamento sarà erogato in diretta streaming e la lezione sarà registrata e condivisa con le/i sole/i iscritte/i al modulo nella piattaforma Moodle. Se si presenteranno le condizioni, potranno essere calendarizzati momenti di interazione in presenza.
The 12cfu course intends to address the students of Communication Sciences and the students of the 1st year of History.
Students who must take the 9cfu exam (in particular those of Political and Social Sciences), will not have to study the manual of Sabbatucci / Vidotto but, in its place, the volume of M. Forno, "La cultura degli altri", Carocci, 2017
Students who have to take the exam only from 6cfu will have to study these two volumes:

The students of History (of the 2nd year or later) and of other degree courses, who have already taken an exam of Contemporary History and who intend to take the 12 credits exam, will instead have to study:

The course is also aimed at students who, in the previous academic years, had included in their study plan the History of Journalism or the History of Media and Journalism.
All lessons will take place in live streaming and will be recorded and shared with students registered on the Moodle platform. If the conditions make it possible, there may be some moments of discussion even in the classroom.
