Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento si propone di illustrare le dinamiche storiche e le tecniche di produzione e di trasmissione che caratterizzano l'avvento della stampa e del libro in Occidente. Lo studente risulterà in grado di inquadrare storicamente e criticamente i temi dell'insegnamento e di leggere in modo appropriato i testi previsti, presentando in forma corretta, sia orale sia scritta, i risultati del suo studio.
The course will describe the historical context of the birth of the printing press in the West. Students need to be able to frame in this same context topics and issues discussed in classes and to express correctly what they read in the books they studied.

Al termine dell'insegnamento lo studente dovrà dimostrare la conoscenza dei seguenti temi:
1) Le condizioni storiche e sociali che hanno permesso e accompagnato l'avvento della stampa;
2) Le modalità di sviluppo dell'oggetto libro tra metà Quattrocento e inizio Seicento.
Students should be able to display their knowledge of the following issue:
1) The historical and social conditions of the advent of the press in the West;
2) The development of the printed book.

Lezioni frontali della durata di 36 ore complessive (6 CFU) con ausilio di proiezioni.

Conoscenze e capacità previste saranno accertate con un colloquio orale. La preparazione sarà giudicata adeguata se lo studente si dimostrerà capace di discutere in modo articolato i temi e i problemi trattati nel corso.
The final exam (in oral form) will verify the degree of knowledge of the main issues discussed in classes. The exam is considered passed if the students prove to be able to fully discuss the course's main themes and problems.

History of the Book è un corso insegnato in inglese, dedicato a studenti stranieri e italiani. Gli studenti italiani con scarsa conoscenza della lingua inglese saranno aiutati con strumenti specifici e in alcune circostanze potranno chiedere di sostenere l'esame in italiano.
Il corso di Storia moderna-Storia del libro è un corso aggregato da 12 CFU, composto da due moduli di 6 CFU l'uno. Sia il corso aggregato (12 CFU) sia uno dei due moduli da 6 CFU possono essere caricati indipendentemente nel piano carriera secondo le esigenze del curriculum e/o dell'indirizzo di appartenenza.
History of the Book is a course taught in English dedicated to non-native Italian speakers and Italian speakers as well. Limited English proficient students will be helped with specific tools and in some circumstances they can ask to take their exam in Italian.
Early Modern History - History of the Book course is a 12 CFU aggregate course, composed of two 6 CFU modules. Students can choose, in compliance with the list of courses in their year plan, the aggregate course or either one 6 CFU module.
