Obiettivi formativi
L'insegnamento concorre alla realizzazione degli obiettivi formativi del Corso di Studi in Storia (triennale) fornendo gli strumenti di metodo specifici per la comprensione dell'antichità romana (collocazione spazio-temporale degli eventi, linguaggio tecnico, utilizzo delle fonti), attraverso l’acquisizione delle nozioni fondamentali sulla storia romana dalle origini fino al Tardoantico, per sviluppare conoscenze di base e capacità di comprensione delle tematiche affrontate, affiancate a un’iniziale capacità di applicarle e di comunicarle.
The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Degree Course in History (three years) by providing students with specific method tools for understanding Roman antiquity (spatio-temporal location of events, technical language, use of sources), through the acquisition of the fundamental notions of Roman history from its origins to the Late Antiquity, to develop basic knowledge and understanding skills of the faced issues, alongside an initial ability to apply and communicate them.

Al termine dell’insegnamento occorrerà dimostrare di aver acquisito nell’ambito della storia romana:
CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE le coordinate spazio-temporali del periodo considerato, i problemi proposti e un congruo patrimonio di termini specifici per la disciplina.
APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE utilizzare i dati acquisiti al fine di contestualizzare nello spazio e nel tempo temi, eventi e personaggi; essere in grado di leggere, comprendere e tematizzare una fonte.
AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO rispondere oralmente o per iscritto a domande che mettano in movimento processi cognitivi induttivi o deduttivi; leggere, comprendere e interpretare una fonte a partire dalle conoscenze e competenze acquisite.
ABILITA' COMUNICATIVE utilizzare un linguaggio e una terminologia scientifica; organizzare gli argomenti con efficacia e chiarezza espositiva; operare collegamenti, approfondimenti e sintesi.
CAPACITA' DI APPRENDIMENTO dimostrare di aver acquisito una capacità di apprendimento continuo tramite la consultazione di una bibliografia e di una sitografia aggiornate.
At the end of the course, students have to demonstrate they have acquired in Roman history:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING the spatio-temporal coordinates of the period considered, the problems proposed and an adequate wealth of specific terms for the discipline.
APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING using the acquired data in order to contextualize in space and time themes, events and characters; being able to read, understand and thematize a source.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT answering orally or in writing to questions that move inductive or deductive cognitive processes; reading, understanding and interpreting a source starting from the knowledge and skills acquired.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS using scientific language and terminology; organizing the topics with effective and clear presentation; making links, dephts and summaries.
LEARNING SKILLS demonstrating the acquisition of a continuous learning ability by consulting an updated bibliography and sitography.

Modalità di insegnamento
Lezioni frontali della durata di 36 ore complessive con l'ausilio di PowerPoint per foto di luoghi e riproduzione di testi di autori antichi in traduzione italiana. Fatto salvo quanto indicato nel campo Note, in merito a un eventuale protrarsi della situazione emergenziale, alle studentesse e agli studenti che non potranno frequentare le lezioni in presenza sarà assicurata la possibilità di fruire delle lezioni in diretta streaming con deposito, nella piattaforma Moodle, dei files audio/video insieme al materiale didattico.
Lectures lasting a total of 36 hours with the aid of PowerPoint for photos of places and reproduction of texts by ancient authors in Italian translation.
Except for what is stated in the notes section, with regard to the possible ongoing emergency situation, the students who are not able to attend face-to-face lectures may access live-streamed lectures, with audio/video recordings available on the Moodle platform along with teaching material.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Conoscenze e capacità previste saranno esaminate esclusivamente attraverso una prova scritta, che consisterà in domande di varia tipologia (chiuse, aperte, a riempimento, ecc.) volte a verificare l’apprendimento delle coordinate spazio-temporali e degli eventi fondamentali della storia romana.
Criteri di valutazione: completezza delle conoscenze; linguaggio tecnico; collocazione spazio-temporale dell'evento o del fatto di cui si chiede di parlare; utilizzo delle fonti storiche e capacità di richiamare le fonti date ai fini della risposta; coerenza logica delle argomentazioni e loro forma espositiva.
La valutazione finale per i 12 CFU sarà data dalla media tra il voto conseguito nella prova scritta di Storia Romana e quello conseguito nella prova scritta di Storia Greca. Tale voto sarà verbalizzato solo dopo il superamento di entrambe le parti. Le due prove potranno essere sostenute in appelli diversi.
Expected knowledge and skills will be examined exclusively through a written test, which will consist of various types of questions (closed, open, filled, etc.) aimed at verifying the learning of the space-time coordinates and the fundamental events of Roman history.
Evaluation criteria: completeness of knowledge; technical language; spatio-temporal location of the event or of the fact of which we ask to speak; use of historical sources and ability to recall the sources given for the purpose of the response; logical consistency of the arguments and their form of presentation.
The final assessment for the 12 CFU will be given by the average between the grade obtained in the written test of Roman History and the one obtained in the written test of Greek History. This grade will be recorded only after passing both tests. The two tests can be taken in different sessions.

- Problemi e metodi della storia romana;
- Periodizzazione e geografia dell’impero romano;
- Principali eventi storici e istituzionali: le origini di Roma e l'età monarchica; le istituzioni della Repubblica e la conquista del Mediterraneo; la crisi della Repubblica; il principato augusteo e l'impero mondiale; la crisi del III secolo e l'età tardoantica;
- Elementi caratterizzanti la civiltà romana (politica, società, cultura, religione, ecc.).
Outlines of history and civilization of ancient Rome from its origins to Late Antiquity, with particular attention to:
• Problems and methods of Roman history;• Periodization and geography of the Roman Empire;
• Main historical and institutional events: e.g. the origins of Rome and the monarchical age; the institutions of the Republic and the conquest of the Mediterranean; the crisis of the Republic; the Augustan Empire and the World Empire; the Crisis of the third century and the Late Antiquity;
• Elements characterizing Roman civilization (politics, society, culture, religion, etc.).

Il manuale scelto andrà poi integrato con gli appunti e i materiali forniti a lezione. Poiché tutte le lezioni saranno sempre rese disponibili on line, non è prevista una modalità specifica per chi non frequenta.
Gli eventuali studenti fruitori del corso appartenenti a una delle università del consorzio UNITA prepareranno l'esame su un manuale in lingua inglese concordato con il docente. Per loro la modalità dell'esame sarà solo orale.

The use of other textbooks should be agreed in advance with the lecturer.
The chosen textbook should then be supplemented with the notes and materials provided in class. Since all lectures will always be made available online, there is no specific provision for those who do not attend.
Any students taking the course from one of the universities in the UNITA consortium will prepare the examination on an English-language textbook agreed with the lecturer. The examination will be oral only.
